I’m James Prestage, the founder of Shades of Blackness, and I’ve always believed that true growth comes from creating something meaningful for the community.
I started Shades of Blackness with one goal in mind: to represent the beauty, strength, and diversity of Black culture through business and community development.
We’re all about amplifying Black voices, celebrating our heritage, and giving back to the people who inspire us every day.
Growing up, I noticed there weren’t enough businesses that represented and supported our community, our way.
Shades of Blackness is my response to that – a space where we can see ourselves fully reflected, not just in sports and entertainment but in the way we move through the world.
I’ve always been passionate about our culture, but more than that, I’ve been driven by the desire to serve.
Through every collection, I aim to uplift and empower our community.
That’s why I’ve been involved in several community development initiatives over the years.
Whether it’s mentoring young entrepreneurs, organizing food drives, or working with local organizations to provide resources to underserved neighborhoods, I’ve always felt a strong need to give back.
Public service, to me, is about standing in the gap and ensuring that everyone has access to the tools they need to thrive.
One of the initiatives closest to my heart is our partnership with schools and local youth programs.
We provide workshops on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and creative expression, helping young people unlock their potential and dream big.
I’ve been where they are – full of ideas, but without the right guidance.
That’s why it’s important to me that they know their dreams are valid and attainable.
At the end of the day, it’s about building a legacy that’s bigger than me.
It’s about ensuring that the next generation has the resources, support, and representation they deserve.
